1998年に宇宙航空研究開発機構（JAXA）（当時は宇宙開発事業団（NASDA））に入社し、約10年に亘って国際宇宙ステーション（ISS）プログラムに従事し、日本実験棟「きぼう」の設計やプログラム調整を担当。2006年からは、米国NASAケネディ宇宙センターのJAXA駐在員として、NASAとの技術調整やプログラム調整を実施。帰国後は、JAXA全体の経営企画を担当する経営推進部にて、経営方針の策定や新規宇宙プロジェクトの企画を担当し、2018年からは、JAXAの有人月面探査プロジェクトの技術検討や国内関係省庁との調整、NASAとのプログラム調整を実施。2022年5月にispaceに入社し、CEOオフィスにて月経済圏のアーキテクチャ検討を担当。

Hiroki Furihata joined Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA, former NASDA) in 1998 and had been working for the design and management of Japanese Experiment Module “KIBO” which is a part of the Internal Space Station (ISS) for nearly 10 years. Then, he moved to NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA as a JAXA liaison in 2006 in order to conduct technical and program coordination regarding the ISS program with NASA. After working in Florida, he returned to Japan and was assigned to the JAXA Strategic Planning and Management Department at JAXA/HQ in Tokyo, where he was in charge of planning of JAXA overall strategy and new space projects and since 2018 he had been a manager of JAXA human lunar exploration projects. He joined ispace in May 2022 and has been working for developing Cislunar Economic Zone architecture.
